According to the Orlando Sentinel, Dematha All-World offensive lineman Cyrus Kouandjio has cut his list down to five, leaving the Terps out of it. No one really thought Maryland had a chance in his recruitment, but now it’s official, unless I missed something earlier.
His final five are Alabama, Iowa, USC, Miami, and…New Mexico. Yes, 1-10 New Mexico, that currently has Javarie Johnson on their roster. He may not know how to win games yet, but Mike Locksley is one hell of a recruiter.
Because we kind of wrote Kouandjio off as a Maryland recruit for a while now, this doesn’t hurt too much. There are plenty of other high-profile in-state/in-area recruits (Darius Jennings, Travis Hughes, Blake Countess) that the Terps have a realistic shot at, so let’s hope Friedgen and co. can get one or two of that elite group. In the meantime, be happy that Maryland has six O-linemen coming in next season.
