Despiting missing their first-ever ACC Championship after losing 3-1 in PK’s to Wake Forest Sunday afternoon, the Maryland Terrapins can still remain upbeat. On Monday at 4:30 pm on ESPNU, it was announced that the Terps earned a #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in the program’s history.

Maryland kicks off their NCAA Title run by hosting two of the first rounds of the tournament. The Terps will take on the Big South champions High Point (11-10-1) Friday Nov.12 at 5pm. It will be the first meeting between these two schools.

The Terps’ potential second round opponents are the local Georgetown Hoyas (13-6-1), who earned a Big East Bid, or the MAC Champions in Siena (17-3-1). They play directly after the Maryland-High Point game, at 8 pm.

The other highly ranked seeds in Maryland’s bracket include the No. 2 seed Virginia Cavaliers, the third seeded Ohio St. Buckeyes and the fourth seeded Texas A&M Aggies.

If the Terrapins can make their way through their bracket, they will have one huge road block to reach their first title game.  Selected on their side of the bracket is the North Carolina Tar Heels, whom the Terps beat for the first time in school history this season and might have a re-match with in the national semifinals.

This is Maryland’s 11th appearance in the NCAA Tournament – last year they made the Sweet Sixteen before falling to UNC. They are 10-9-1 in NCAA games.
