Space Commits to Florida State, Maryland's 2011 Basketball Options Dwindling

In a complete surprise, Antwan Space has committed to Florida State. Long rumored to be an Arkansas lean, he recently said that he “loved” Maryland and it looked like those were his top two schools. Now we get to face him twice a year. Fun.

The Terps now have two scholarships left for the 2011 class, and two top targets in Desmond Hubert and Adjehi Baru. Baru is a long shot, as the Terps are up against Kentucky and North Carolina (not to mention the College of Charleston). Hubert was here this weekend, and apparently loved his visit. So what will happen?

Here’s what I want to happen (unrealistically): The Terps get Hubert to commit, and somehow get Baru to commit as well. Mayhem occurs in College Park.

Here’s what I want to happen (realistically): The Terps get Hubert to commit, locking up a solid big man for a great 2011 class. They save their extra scholarship for the 2012 class (where there is a lot of talent), and call it a day.

Here’s what I think will happen: The Terps get Hubert to commit, and coach Williams gets one more late commitment (a la Steve Goins, Haukur Palsson, or Berend Weijs) to round out the class.

Honestly, though, as long as we get one of those two big men, I’ll be happy.
