Marcus Whitfield Out For Season

Redshirt freshman linebacker/defensive end Marcus Whitfield is out for the year after tearing his ACL and MCL during last Saturday’s game against Morgan State. Whitfield played one play on special teams and received an injury to his knee, and an MRI revealed today that he will be out for the season. Coach Friedgen said he is hoping for a medical redshirt for Whitfield.

Whitfield was listed as the fourth defensive end for the Terps, behind Drew Gloster, Derek Drummond, and Bradley Johnson. This shouldn’t really hurt the team too much this season, with all of the depth in front of him. However, Whitfield looks to have a bright future in this program, and we wish him the best of luck in his recovery for next year.
