The Maryland women’s soccer team improved to 3-0-0 yesterday, defeating the Tennessee Volunteers 3-1 in Knoxville. Midfielder Lydia Hastings started the scoring, netting her second goal of the year in the 15th minute. Less than two minutes later, Ashley Grove put in a goal of her own, her team-leading fourth of the year, off an assist by Caitlin McDowell. Emily Dowd scored for the Vols, and forward Jasmyne Spencer scored her first goal of the season in the 74th minute, securing the victory for the Terps.
Forward Sade Ayinde, who was injured in Maryland’s previous game (against Missouri), did not start but did play, recording two shots in 37 minutes. The lineup for the Terps was Gibbons-Deegan-McDowell-Baker on defense, Hodak-Dreska-Hastings-O’Sullivan at mid, and Spencer-Grove up front. At goalie, Yewande Balogun did not make any saves, but only allowed the one goal.
The Terps have their second game of the Vol Classic on Sunday, against Kennesaw State.
